The Arcadia is named Best Traditional Kitchen at the 2012 Westchester Magazine Design Awards

“Elegant, yet not stuffy; bold, yet not showy,” was the jury’s description of Carol Kurth Architecture’s recent transformation of The Arcadia, a traditional 1900′s farmhouse kitchen, into a beautiful, modern living space. The design team’s concept for the kitchen was to create a canvas of white surfaces that appeared to float in the space. To achieve this, oak wood floors were laid and stained in a chocolate brown color to anchor the space; and the entire perimeter of the kitchen was lined with a continuous stainless steel toe kick. The design team contrasted the traditional, framed-door style with stainless steel panel details on select cabinet drawers and the range hood to give the predominantly white kitchen an industrial flair; the floating island was clad with chocolate brown stained cabinetry to contrast the white aesthetic; key appliances were also selected in stainless steel.
